Rebrand Series: Leafs 3rds

Similar to the Winter classic jersey I designed for the Red Wings, I went with the old school stripe style jersey and borrowed the beige colour jersey from the Rangers winter classic jersey from a few years back.

The logo isn't much but the encircled leaf adds to the antique feel of the complete concept so I'm hoping it all plays off each other.

Rebrand Series: Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs are one of those teams that "change" their jerseys quite often.  That being said the changes they've made over the last 10 years have literally been switching back between 2 different jersey sets that look essentially the same.  Not only that but they've introduced the same 3rd jersey a couple of times (before and directly after the Reebok edge era) until recently they've been using a blue 3rd jersey AND unveiled their winter classic jersey as well.
With all of that in mind I decided that when it was all said and done the Leafs just need a Fresh, New Look something the fans haven't seen before.
The inspiration for the logo was the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Team Canada logo which acts as a template as for my new Leafs logo.  In the center is the TML wordmark that the team has used on and off for a very long time.  Acting as a background to the TML are a couple of things; the veins of a leaf to pay homage to the old school leaf Toronto has used on the white 3rd jersey as well as the CN tower, THE Toronto landmark.  I've done the best I can to make sure the CN tower blends in as naturally as possible with the veins of the leaf so that it doesn't look too tacky.
The jerseys themselves were my biggest obstacle, I fumbled around with a couple of ideas; 1 set had a very old school feel to them but eventually I decided that if I was using a "modern" new logo I should also go with a modern new jersey set.  After several weeks of just looking at these 2 options I finally settled on these 2 jerseys and I hope they compliment the new logo well:

Rebrand Series: Canadiens 3rds

First off, a thousand apologies for leaving you guys hanging these last 3 weeks.  Year end stuff has school has gotten the better of me and I have had next to no time to post anything.
So without further ado, I give you a re-imagined concept of a throwback jersey the Habs wore during their centennial season.  It is essentially the same jersey, but I've decluttered it (although it may not feel like it) by putting less stripes on it and giving it just a hint more blue because although the Habs have worn red since anyone can remember, the blue looks good, and the jersey is an instant classic.
The logo is a combination of 2 logos the Canadiens used back in the early 1900s.  The maple leaf was used in 1911, while the CA logo was used a few years later in 1915.  Simply put I've combined to historical eras of the rich history that is the Montréal Canadiens and put a new twist on a classic jersey from deep in the archives.

Rebrand Series: Montréal Canadiens

Before you start yelling blasphemy I realize that the Canadiens jerseys are considered sacred and so before anyone freaks out I'll clear the air right off the bat, I've made small, simple changes to enrich the history surrounding this team.
With that said let's talk about the logo: Simply put, I've taken the current Habs logo and slapped it on top of a version of the globe logo they used way back in the 1920s.  I've tried to take two eras of the most historic team and blend them together to create a unique new look.
The jerseys are a version of what the Canadiens use now.  The Home jersey is pretty much the same except you may notice that I've taken the two thin stripes off the bottom of the jersey.  That's not all, I've also put a faint deep blue print of the world map inspired by the 1920s globe logo.  The away version is the exact opposite of its home counterpart which IS a big step away from the norm for them, but sometimes we should embrace change.

Rebrand Series: Senators 3rds

Well, when I posted my Senators rebrand last week I swapped out the primary colour of red for black, but I couldn't just leave the red by the waste side so, behold my rebranded Senators 3rd jersey.
There isn't really any rhyme or reason for the design but as it came together it definitely started looking more and more Senator-esque.  The one element I did really want to incorporate into the design is arrow feather/branch looking things, seeing as they've been a part of the Sens logo for a very long time.
The logo is taken from the Heritage jerseys that the Sens brought into existence a couple of seasons ago.  In the end, it all comes together to give the senators another unique jersey design that compliments the past, present and future of the franchise.

New Ottawa Senators 3rd Jersey:

Rebrand Series: Ottawa Senators

A few years ago the Senators introduced a 3rd jersey with the wordmark SENS across the front.  To say the least, this jersey was very unique, personally I kind of liked them although I know a lot of people were appalled by them.  That being said when they came out with their Heritage jersey 2 years ago they made a step in the right direction.  Those heritage jerseys look awesome and so when I was making a new jersey set I decided to build on the success of the Heritage jersey and make an away counterpart to complete the set.
You may not even notice that I've done anything to the logo, but if you take a closer look you will notice that what I've done is, I've taken 2 of the Senators logos and combined then together seamlessly. Most obviously, I've taken the Roman Senator and kept him as the focal point.  I took the red maple leaf from an alternate logo that the Senators used as a shoulder patch on a 3rd jersey they wore from 2000-2007 that includes this maple leaf and the Parliament building in Ottawa.  The mission in making this logo was to keep the Senators unique Roman soldier element, but to also pay homage to the fact that they are located in the nation's capital so you've gotta represent somehow.

Rebrand Series: Sabres 3rds

Now that I've quickly come to my senses (with the help of my buddy Rodney) I've realized that giving the Sabres a black and yellow jersey is just a bad idea.  Especially considering the fact that the Sabres divisional rival the Bruins have rocked that colour scheme since the beginning of time.  I've made some quick revisions and am ready to unveil my rebranded Sabres 3rds.  I've kept the black concept in here just for kicks, man what was I thinking?!

Rebrand Series: Buffalo Sabres

I can't remember if I had already posted this set of jerseys yet, it's been a while so I guess I'll just treat it like I haven't.  Simply put I've decided to take the Sabres jerseys from the mid 90's and updated the colour scheme as well as modernized the look a little bit.  Obviously I'm a fan of pretty much every jersey I make but I got to say that I really like how these ones turned out.
The logo is also an updated version of a classic.  I've combined the double sabres logo that was used on the Sabres 3rds, back in the mid 90s and taken the Buffalo head that was the primary logo for the Sabres for a number of years and made a "tribute" to the original Sabres logo, which is their current logo again anyways.

Rebrand Series: Bruins 3rds

It's been a while, too long.  life has been crazy, in a good way but I'm back and ready to go!

I'm jumping back into things with the Bruins 3rds I designed to go with the rebranded jerseys.  The design for the 3rds was inspired by the Ottawa Senators 3rds that were introduced this past year.  The barber pole stripes are a classic look, the Boston Bruins are a classic, original 6 team so where could anyone go wrong by combining the 2.  I know the brown is a bit of a stretch but back in the day the bruins rocked the bruin and I feel it gives it a little bit more of an authentic feel to the jersey.
The logo, I've used before with my first Bruins concept, it works, simple enough but also pays tribute to what the team is actually named after in the first place. What do you think?

Rebrand Series: Boston Bruins

Not too much to say about the new Bruins concept, although it has many similarities to their actual 3rds (which are SWEET) this one is also quite a bit different.
I tried making the whites without the the black sleeves but it looked tacky, so I'm liking the executive decision to add the black sleeves.
The jersey itself has, much like my first bruins concept, a bear paw/claw mark like striping on the jersey.
The logo, is a mashup of their current 3rd jersey logo, their primary logo and a Bear paw, and I'm loving the way it turned out.

It Pain's me to do This but Here Goes Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs

For those of you who don't know me I grew up in Ontario, just outside of Toronto and I AM NOT a Leafs fan!!!!!  So it will probably come as no surprise that when I was flipping through my original concepts there wasn't a drawing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, shocker!!!

BUT, my buddy from high school who designed these jerseys with me was a huge Leafs fan and a couple of months ago he sent me the jersey he created for the Leafs, so all the Leafs fans out there you should be thanking Jeff!

Jeff's design is on a template that can be imported directly into an EA Sports NHL game for PC, which was the original purpose for creating these jerseys.  From this drawing I've re-created Jeff's design into the template I've been using to give you a better idea of what it would actually look like if it was ever produced.  BIG shout out goes to Jeff!!

I See Your Stars and Stripes and I Raise You Some Canadian Heritage: Ottawa Senators

I must have designed the Rangers jersey and the Senators jersey pretty close together cuz both of them scream patriotism to the max!  This Senators jerseys sports the shoulder patch the Sens used to wear with the parliament building crested together with a maple leaf.  From there I decided to use the maple leaf as the focal point of the rest of the jersey; putting it on the bottom of the jersey and the sleeves.  While it looks a bit cluttered I like how it turned out:

A Mediocre Monday Afternoon Montreal Design

The Montreal Canadiens jerseys, are a classic, since the 70s their jerseys have changed very little.  That being said when trying to figure out what to do with the Habs 8 years ago I didn't really have any ground breaking ideas and to be honest, what I came up with, to me is only "meh".  And I promise that when I design a new tabs jersey after I make it through all my 2003-04 design it will be much better than this one, PROMISE!

Yet another Jersey and Identity Crisis for Buffalo

Back in the day, when I originally drew this picture the sabres were using their red black and white jerseys.  Since then they've changed the colours, jerseys, and logos numerous times so needless to say this jersey was outdated shortly after I drew it.  I can't really remember why I chose to make the jersey look the way it does but I must say it still looks pretty cool, although I will admit that I'm glad they're back in blue and yellow.  So I guess the next time I make a new sabres jersey I will refresh it with some blue and yellow.

What exactly is a Bruin?

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, oh wait, nope scratch that... Back in the day, or at least it seems like back in the day, the Boston Bruins had a yellow 3rd jersey sporting a gentle looking bear on the front, intimidating I know right?!  In 2004 when I originally made this concept I decided that the Bruin on the front of the jersey needed to look meaner, strike fear into the eyes of their opponents not make them want to take them home and snuggle up nice and close to it on a cold winter's day.  Back when I made this jersey (8 years ago) I found this really angry looking bear and drew it on the original concept as you can see, when I re-created this jersey I couldn't find that image anywhere on google, I mean come on eh?!  Needless to say I found a new logo that still looks pretty awesome and added some unique features to the jersey.  At the bottom I simplified the original 3rds the Bruins used into what I would argue looks like a bear paw/claw print, at least I hope thats what it looks like.  I then added some slash marks to add some character to the jersey and overall I must same I am very pleased at how it turned out.
